Each year the Trapper Trails Council hosts a Council wide training for our camp staffs. This is a great opportunity to share best practices and share the Council vision with the staffs that will be teaching and serving our youth over the summer.

The Council has 8 great camps and over 400 staff members that dedicate time and talent at our summer camps.
If you have not signed up for summer camp or high adventure there is still time. Give your youth the opportunity to learn and grow under the direction of an accredited camp program. For more information call (801)479-5460 or visit us at www.trappertrails.org.

1st Annual Bob Aamodt, Inc. Vertical Challenge -- A Success

“What is a Vertical Challenge?” Simply, the team of 4 individuals who skis/snowboards the most vertical feet down the Strawberry run at Snowbasin in the 2 ½ hour period of time wins! Speed is not the secret. Endurance is the key! The winning team will receive a cash prize and bragging rights! While the Vertical Challenge could be viewed as a “race”, it isn’t! MORE THAN ANYTHING, the Vertical Challenge seeks to provide a FUN and exciting venue to mingle with friends and associates while benefiting the youth programs of the Trapper Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America.

The 1st Annual Bob Aamodt, Inc. Vertical Challenge was held at Snowbasin Resort on Friday, February 29, 2008. After months of planning, recruiting teams, and procuring prize items by a committee led by Bob Aamodt, Vertical Challenge Special Event Chair, the event was deemed a success!

About 60 Vertical Challenge participants were greeted at Snowbasin with a picture perfect day to ski to raise money for the Council’s many youth programs. A cool, yet clear morning turned into a perfectly sunny, warm day. After eating breakfast, and mingling with each other, participants found their skis and went to the lift to carry them up the hill. There was a friendly competition among the participants.

The vertical challenge was a success! Good times were had by all, and fundraising provided a solid foundation for next year. Success of the Vertical Challenge comes because of the high level of participation from several sources. The Vertical Challenge was overwhelmed with sponsors. Thank you! Thanks as well to the golf committee: Bob Aamodt (Chair), Andrea Abbot, and Dean Foust. The leadership they provided for the event was remarkably effective. Thanks as well to those Trapper Trails Council staff members that offered endless logistical support. Finally, thanks to those of you who came and skied.

The Vertical Challenge is going to be an annual event. The 2nd annual Vertical Challenge will be held at Snowbasin resort of February 27, 2009. Call the council office for details. You won’t want to miss out!

2007 - One of the most exciting years in Trapper Trails Council History

The Trapper Trails Council just finished one of the most exciting years in its history. We started off the year by presenting our 100th anniversary recognition plan with the Baden Powell patches and the commemorative coins.

In February, during Scout week, we ran 13 consecutive articles about our Scouting values in the Standard Examiner and Logan Herald.

In March, we set a record with our Scouting for Food Drive by collecting 626,540 pounds of food. We had over 19,000 youth and adults involved in this great community project.

In May, we held our 100th anniversary Jamborall at the Weber County Fairgrounds with over 14,000 Scouts and Scouters involved. The fireworks on Friday evening and the flag ceremony on Saturday morning were very inspiring! "Back to Brownsea" was a lot of fun as Scouts were able to participate in the original "Brownsea Island" activities from 100 years ago. The Jamborall was the largest gathering of Scouts and Scouters in our history.

We had an outstanding summer and had over 28,000 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts and Venturers involved in our outdoor program. On August 1, 2007 we celebrated the 100th anniversary of Scouting with our flag ceremonies at each Camp. I happened to be at Camp Bartlett that day and participated in the recommitment ceremony. This was truly a once in a lifetime experience.

Our fall camp-o-rees were also centered on the original "Brownsea" experience. Scouts were able to participate in the activities provided by Baden Powell, the founder of Scouting.

The culmination of our celebration was in October, when we held the 100th anniversary Extravaganza at the Davis Conference Center, with 817 Scouting, government, civic, and church leaders in attendance. Charles Dahlquist, National Venturing Chairman and Silver Buffalo recipient, was our keynote speaker for the evening. The council also produced a 100th anniversary DVD that was highlighted at the Extravaganza.

I would like to thank all of the many volunteers and professionals who made this past year such a resounding success!
